Last Friday, Russell Hamilton, Barb & Neill Simpson and volunteers from the Jean Malpas Community Nursery joined Arrowtown Preschool Explorers to plant 100 native trees into an area the Explorers call ‘The Log’, at the Bush Creek end of Sawpit Gully Track in Arrowtown. The Explorers, who are the oldest 15 children at Arrowtown Preschool have spent time at ‘The Log’ for a couple of years now during their nature based learning programme on Friday mornings. Back in May, the Preschool children along with teachers and parents travelled to Kelvin Heights to pot up these native plants that were funded by Honda NZ. Now that Spring has arrived, they’ve planted them out and are redeveloping this area. They are planning on planting another 100 – 200 plants next year.
